Planetary Parenting

If you know me, you know I use astrology as a tool for understanding. Understanding myself, others, situations, what is happening in the world. It helps me to pay attention to the pattens all around me and make sense of them. When I’m looking at someone’s astrology chart I get to see a personality unfold. Habits, needs, strengths - they are all there in the chart. It almost feels like I have the cheat code once i have a chart, because it allows me to fully see a person and meet them where they are, without any unrealistic expectations.

When I became a mother, astrology again allowed me to see the patterns that were showing up with my kids and make sense of them. It became an invaluable tool to know my children in a deeper way. And while every planet and placement and house and degree in a chart matters, when we are little the most powerful placement to look at is the moon. Our sun sign is how we shine. It’s our identity, but it really doesn’t become fully formed until we are in our teenage years. Before we have a deep understanding of who we are and how we relate to the rest of the world, we exist in our inner world, and that is governed by the moon. Our moon is often said to represent our emotions, but it so much deeper that that. It’s how we feel and what we need on a basic level, before we even know how to express those needs. It’s the earliest attachment patterns, and how the nervous system learned to feel safe in the world. It’s what emotional security looks like. What we need in moments of emotional upheaval to come back to our centers. Knowing all this as a parent has been a game changer. It’s given me the gift of being able to respond to meet needs, rather that react to them.

My boys are now 11 and 13…adolescence is no joke! But it’s made slightly easier by know that my boys both have fire moons. They need movement to move through their emotions. They need space to process. I know what do to put out those fiery emotions quickly, and not fan the flames. Me being able to respond to them in the ways that best suit their moons, creates a deeper level of trust between us, because I don’t have expectations beyond what they are capable of. I’ll be talking about all of this at my Planetary Parenting workshop on Friday August 29th from 6-7:30pm. We’ll be at The Burrow Cafe and Play, in Orlando. The workshop is 35 to attend, and childcare is available, for an additional cost. Please reach out to rsvp, and I hope to see you there!
